N. Houston Parks
Houston is a native of Maury County. He wanted to be a lawyer since he was a boy, and after receiving a degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, where he majored in History, he received his law degree from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
After serving as law clerk to federal district judge Harry Wellford in Memphis, Houston returned to his hometown and practiced law for 21 years, first with MacFarland, Colley, Blank & Jack, and then with Trabue, Sturdivant & DeWitt. His law practice was varied, and included wills and estates; divorces, custody, and support; adoptions; real estate; business law; and litigation. He is AV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He helped start The Mediation Center in Columbia.
For the next 18 years, Houston was an officer of First Farmers and Merchants Bank, and worked as general counsel and senior trust officer of the bank’s $4 billion trust department. At First Farmers, Houston worked extensively with wills and estates, guardianships and conservatorships, powers of attorney, estate and asset planning, and investments. He has extensive knowledge of financial statements and valuation methods.
The Tennessee Supreme Court has appointed Houston to the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education.
Houston is married to Suzanne Cox Parks, and they have one child, Alexander. Both Suzanne and Alexander are educators. Houston has been active in legal and civic leadership in Maury County and middle Tennessee. In his spare time, Houston is an avid reader and writer.
